Flying Squirrel

Rosemary was home sick one Friday and heard something under the sofa. She looked and found a tiny, weak, very dehydrated baby flying squirrel. We have no idea how it managed to get in the house, but we have become absolutely smitten with this comical, animated, very cuddly little creature. We aren't sure, but we think it is a female.

We have had her 2 weeks now and she has been transformed into a little creature I had very little hope for into an active, fat and healthy little companion. I made her a little pouch from a washcloth and wear it on my belt or around my neck and she travels there very happily to soccer games, the grocery store and has even gone to work with me.

She is very tame and wants to be with you- especially if she can curl up in a warm spot- she likes warm hands and especially likes to nestle in the crook of Rosemary's elbow. She also loves my necklace and will hold it in her little hands and pull on it.

She will peek out from time to time to see what is going on and if there is anything good to eat. We have dropped down from four bottle feedings per day to three times a day, and she is making a smooth transition from milk to solid food. She loves Cheerios, bananas, peanuts, apples, sunflower seeds dried cranberries, Tostitos and white oak acorns.

The pictures below do not capture her personality- the flash bothered her eyes and the only one that you can see what she really looks like is the first one. I love when she takes her tail and covers her eyes when she is ready to sleep.
